Pharmacy is a healthcare profession and deals with preparation, preservation, compounding, dispensing and delivery of medicinal substances of natural, synthetic and biotechnological origin. It aims to ensure their safe and effective use at different stages of manufacturing, administration, pharmacovigilance and patient counseling & care. The pharmacy profession is a choice of preference for students with a medical background.
The pharmaceutical education is imparted at three levels, a two-year Diploma Course (D. Pharmacy), four year Degree Course (B. Pharmacy) and two-year postgraduate program (M. Pharmacy). The pharmaceutical industry and the profession of pharmacy as a whole in India have undergone rapid changes due to technological advancements and safety concern of medicines, during the last five decades. These changes open up newer opportunities and challenges to the professionals in industrial and patient oriented pharmacy.
