B.Tech. (Mechanical Engineering) provides broad education and prepares the students for employment in a wide range of industries. It develops the ability to demonstrate the knowledge of engineering and management principles and apply them while doing a project. The study of B.Tech in mechanical engineering empowers students to design, build, install and operate various machines and be able to manage men, machines and money.

A Candidate must have passed Diploma in Engineering / Technology course of a duration of 3 years or more from Board of Technical Education Haryana or B.Sc. from a recognized University as defined by UGC or its equivalent examination with at least 45% marks (42.75% in the case of SC candidates) in aggregate of all semesters in any of the branch of Engineering. [OR as may be amended by HSTES/ competent authority.]

Mechanical Engineering involves design, production and operation of everything from small individual parts and devices (e.g. micro sensors, printer, and nozzle) to large systems (e.g. machine tools, spacecraft). Mechanical engineering requires an understanding of core concepts including mathematics, mechanics, kinematics, dynamics, thermodynamics, material science, the strength of materials and theory of machines. Using these core concepts along with Computer-Aided Design and product lifecycle management tools, A Mechanical Engineer designs and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices, weapons and others.
The department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and workshop to ensure that students can learn practical aspects of Mechanical Engineering. Most of the faculty members are highly qualified, many of whom hold doctorate degrees from the best Indian and International Universities/ Institutes. All are at least M. Tech has rich industrial and teaching experience to provide the experience in the real industrialized world, the Industrial visit is arranged to synthesize the theoretical knowledge with practical industrial working.
- Pattern and carpentry shop:
It is fully equipped with woodworking machines i.e. lathe and drilling machine along with the woodworking tools to give training to the student about wooden joint and patterns.
- Welding Workshop:
Latest welding machines like arc welding, gas welding, spot welding, MIG Welding and gas cutter etc. are an integral part of the fitting workshop. It is duly equipped with a bench grinder, bench drilling machine, power hacksaw and all types of measuring equipment and marking tools required for filing purpose.
- Fitting & Sheet Metal Shop:
This workshop is duly equipped with bench drilling machine, sheet cutting machine i.e lever shearing machines and foot shearing press. Bending and folding machine along with beading machine and sheet metal working tools like scriber, dot punch, center punch, try square, chisel, hand snip, mallet etc. precision measuring instruments i.e micrometer, vernier caliper, height gauge, combination set, dial indicator, thread pitch and radius gauge and bevel protector, etc.
- Forging Shop:
It includes tool for forging of different components used in the industry. Shop is equipped with open hearth furnace, anvil, sledgehammer, swage block, flatters and other tools required for metal working.
- Foundry shop:
It includes molding and casting of metal for industrial components. This shop comprises with Pit furnace, Crucible, ladles, molding boxes, molding sand along with other required hand tools. Molding is carried out at a suitable platform.
- Machine Shop:
It is fully equipped with lathes, shapers, milling machines, surface grinders, drilling machines, bench grinder.
- CNC (Computerized Numerical Machines) Machine shop:
We have two latest versions of CNC machines for our students. It consists of CNC turning trainers (XL-TURN) and CNC milling trainer (XL-MILL). In this shop, students learn programming, simulation on computers and manufacturing of different industrial part on machines.
- Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing Lab:
The lab is equipped with nos of 32 I7 branded computers of Acer with 8 GB RAM, 1 TB Hard Disk, 2 GB Graphic Card leased line connection loaded with design software like CAD, Pro-E, Creo where students can develop designing skills.
- The strength of Material Lab:
In this laboratory students get hands-on experiences by working on various machines like Universal Testing Machine (UTM), Torsion Testing Machine, Impact Testing Machine, Hardness Tester and Erichson testing machine is provided to the students, so that they may determine the basic mechanical properties of materials. The lab is equipped with Winch Crab, Worm & Worm Wheel, Screw Jack, Flywheel etc.
- Fluid Mechanics Lab:
In this lab students perform experiments on fluid pressure measurement, Hydraulic coefficients such as coefficient of discharge, contraction and the velocity on the equipment like Venturi Meter, Orifice meter, Bernoulli’s apparatus, Reynold’s apparatus, Notch apparatus, Impact Jet apparatus, Friction & Head Losses apparatus, Free & Forced Vortex apparatus, Rotameter, Cavitation apparatus, Metacentric height apparatus.
- Fluid Machines lab:
In this lab the students study the characteristics of Kaplan, Pelton and Francis turbines along with Hydraulic Ram, Gear Oil Pump, Hydraulic Press, Centrifugal and Reciprocating Pumps are also available in this lab to Draw Constant Head, Constant Speed, and Constant efficiency curves, Wind Tunnel is also available in this lab.
- Kinematics of Machines Lab:
This lab is meant for the study of various mechanisms & kinematics of the machines. It consists of basic models of power transmission devices (i.e Belt & Pulley arrangement, Gear & Gear Train), cam & follower arrangement, Coriolis component of acceleration, whirling of the shaft, and various mechanism, single & double slider crank mechanism, whit worth quick return mechanism, etc.
- Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Lab:
In this lab, the basics of refrigeration and air conditioning are studied. The lab is equipped with various test rigs like Vapor compression test rig, Ice Plant, Heat Pump, Electrolux Absorption Refrigerator.
Air conditioning test rigs are installed to carry out basic performance characteristics on refrigeration and air conditioning.
- Material Science Lab:
Here the students are taught about various heat treatment processes like annealing, normalizing, tempering, surface hardening etc of different specimens through muffle furnace, polishing machine and metallurgical microscope.
- Dynamics of Machines Lab:
This lab is equipped with advanced equipment like proell, watt, potter & Hartnell governor, motorized gyroscope, balancing apparatus. In this lab, the students prepare performance characteristic curves and study of the stability, sensitivity, and balancing of reciprocating and rotating masses.
- Heat Transfer Lab:
In this lab the students learn the complicated phenomenon of heat transfer with the help of apparatus like parallel and counter flow heat exchanger, composite wall, lagged pipe, apparatus for measuring heat transfer properties under natural and forced convection, heat pipe demonstrator and pin fin performance apparatus, dropwise / filmwise condensation, two-phase heat transfer unit.
- Automobile Engineering Lab:
A practical study of various automobiles regarding their engine, other internal components, and driving system is carried out in this lab. The students are also given the opportunity to work on the real vehicle to study the basic function of the automobile. The lab contains working models of the synchromesh gearbox, suspension system, various type of steering system, transaxle gearbox with differential, various types of clutch assembly, ignition system, various types of brakes. It also has a various wall hanging boards explaining the working of above automobile assemblies.
- Applied Numerical Technique Lab:
The department of applied mathematics has been commendably carrying out its task of imparting instructions in basic mathematics courses. The computer lab of the department is well equipped with computers and advanced software.
- Steam & Power Generation Lab:
This laboratory houses two stroke and four stroke engines (Petrol & Diesel), pressure gauge, cooling system, lubrication system, compressor along with functional models of various boilers like Cochran, Lancashire, Babcock, Wilcox Locomotive, Lemont, and Velox.
- I.C. Engines & Gas Turbine Lab:
This lab contains four stroke three cylinder petrol engine with hydraulic dynamometer test rig, engine valve diagram, Orsat apparatus for exhaust gas analysis, two stroke petrol engine with rope brake dynamometer test rig, computerized four stroke single cylinder diesel engine test rig to calculate bhp, ihp, frictional power efficiency of engines and multi-cylinder 4 stroke diesel engine test rig with hydraulic brake dynamometer.
- Measurement & Instrumentation Lab:
This lab is equipped with strain gauges, cantilever beam kit, load cell, LVDT, RTD, thermocouple kit, capacitive, inductive, photoelectric pick up kit and dead weight pressure gauge tester, measurement of the level by capacitance method, calibration of bimetallic thermometer, pressure & temperature control trainer.
- Basics of Mechanical Engineering Lab:
The lab is meant for the 1st year students where they learn the basics of mechanical engineering. This lab is equipped with two strokes/four stroke petrol & diesel engine models, Babcock, Wilcox, and Cochran boiler models, impulse and reaction steam turbine model and working models of the screw jack, winch crab, worm & worm wheel.
- Engineering Mechanics Lab:
In this lab, students learn various theorems like Maxwell’s reciprocal theorem, moment area theorem to calculate slope and deflection in the beam. They also learn about vertical and horizontal elastic displacements of curved members. They also learn about structural members i.e. strut and column.
A fresh mechanical engineering graduate can get gainful employment in design bureaus, manufacturing and software industries. Both public and private sectors are open. The automobile industry, heavy engineering, steel plants, power companies, oil and gas companies are some of the sectors which welcome mechanical engineers in large numbers. One can also opt for administrative jobs in government, banks etc. and pursue higher studies in India and abroad.
