OVERVIEW

B.Tech.(Civil Engineering) is a regular four years undergraduate course offering technical education and professional training in Civil Engineering. In addition to the core subjects of civil engineering, the department offers additional tools like MS Project, Primavera, Staad- Pro, ArcGIS etc. based on current industry requisite to enhance the employability of the students. The department also encourages the students to participate in extra-curricular and co-curricular activities necessary for their overall development and to keep them up-to- date with current developments in the construction industry. The aim of the program is to prepare a highly skilled construction and project management professionals to play a major role for the development of the nation by utilising their skills in the projects like housing, highways, railways, bridges, dams, tunnels, airports, water supply and sewage treatment plants docks and harbour etc.

After completion of B.Tech.(Civil) program, the student should attain the following outcomes:

ADMISSION TO 1ST YEAR (1ST SEMESTER)

A Candidate must have passed 10+2 examination with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with one of the following subjects: Chemistry/ Bio-Technology /Computer Science /Biology by securing at least 45% marks (42.75% in case of SC /ST candidates) in aggregate from a recognized Board/ University [OR as may be amended by the competent authority.]

 ADMISSION PROCEDURE

  • 25% management seats shall be filled by the Institute itself through on-campus counseling on the basis of the prescribed criteria.
  • 75% of the seats shall be filled on the basis of the inter-se-merit of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE- Main) through online off-campus counselling by HSTES/ NIC [OR as may be amended by the competent authority.]

LATERAL ENTRY TO 2ND YEAR (3RD SEMESTER)

A Candidate must have passed Diploma in Engineering / Technology course of a duration of 3 years or more from Board of Technical Education Haryana or B.Sc. from a recognized University as defined by UGC or its equivalent examination with at least 45% marks (42.75% in the case of SC candidates) in aggregate of all semesters in any of the branch of Engineering. [OR as may be amended by HSTES/ competent authority.]

ADMISSION PROCEDURE

  • 25% management seats shall be filled by the Institute itself through on-campus counseling on the basis of the prescribed criteria.
  • 75% of the seats shall be filled on the basis of the inter-se-merit of O.L.E.T. (LEET Engg.) (Conducted by HSTES/NIC) through online off-campus counseling by HSTES/NIC. [OR as may be amended by HSTES/ competent authority.]

  • CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY LAB

The objective of concrete technology laboratory is to determine the physical properties of construction materials like aggregate, cement, steel, wood etc. and strength characteristics of various grades of mortar and concrete. The tests include determination of specific gravity, fineness, normal consistency, setting times, workability and soundness of cement; fineness modulus of aggregate; compressive strength of mortar, concrete, and bricks; bending and flexural strength on concrete; tensile strength of steel rods. The students will be able to understand the suitability of these materials for construction and can design the concrete mix. This laboratory course will help the students to understand the theoretical concepts learned in the course building construction materials.

  • FLUID MECHANICS LAB

This Laboratory illustrates the physical concepts and experimental techniques of fluid mechanics. The objective of this laboratory is to determine the various parameters related to fluid flow in pipes and in open channels and to study the characteristics of various hydraulic machines such as pumps and turbines. The experiments include determination of the coefficient of discharge of orifices, mouthpieces, notches, and weirs; loss coefficients, verification of law of conservation of energy, characteristics of flow profiles, hydraulic jump and characteristics of pumps and turbines and so forth. This laboratory course will help the students to understand the theoretical concepts learned in the courses fluid mechanics I and II.

  • SURVEYING LAB

This laboratory is equipped with the latest instruments and tools like leveling instruments, theodolite, total station etc. that students use throughout the surveying course which is necessary for engineering practice in the field of surveying. The objective of this laboratory is to learn about the measurement of distances, angles, reduced levels and setting out works using chain and tape, compass, plane table, levels, theodolite and so forth. We prepare the students to be able to use various tools and techniques which commensurate with the current industry requirement. This laboratory course will help the students to understand the theoretical concepts learned in the course Surveying I and II.

  • STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS LAB

This laboratory provides the basic knowledge to determine the forces, stresses, deflection and behavior of structural members like beams, columns, arches, trusses and portal frames when subjected to different loading conditions. Understanding of determinate and indeterminate structures will also be introduced through virtual experiment. This laboratory course will help the students to understand the theoretical concepts learned in the courses structural analysis I & II.

  • ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING LAB 

The objective of this laboratory is to determine the various standards of potable water, wastewater, air and noise necessary for the environment. This laboratory has the all necessary equipment required to conduct experiments prescribed by the University. The experiments include the determination of pH, turbidity, acidity, alkalinity, conductivity, DO, BOD, COD of water and waste water as well as pollution level of air and noise. This laboratory course will help the students to understand the theoretical concepts learned in the course ‘Water supply and treatment’ and Wastewater supply and treatment.

  • TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING LAB

The objective of Transportation Engineering laboratory is to determine the various properties of aggregates and bitumen to be used for research and teaching in the fields of rigid and flexible pavements. Experiments include tests for impact, abrasion, attrition crushing strength for aggregate and tests for viscosity, penetration, ductility, softening point and flash and fire point for bitumen. The students will understand the suitability of these materials for construction of pavement. This laboratory course will help the students to understand the theoretical concepts learned in the course transportation engineering I and II.

  • SOIL MECHANICS AND GEOTECHNOLOGY LAB 

The objective of Soil mechanics and Geotechnology laboratory is to determine the various properties of soil required for the design of different types of foundations for civil engineering structures. The laboratory involves the determination of moisture content, specific gravity, density, plastic limit, and liquid limit, shrinkage limit, grain size distribution permeability, consolidation, compressibility, shear strength and bearing capacity of the soil of soil. The students can utilize the knowledge of both theory and practical in the field to resolve the real problems encountered. This laboratory course will help the students to understand the theoretical concepts learned in the course Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering.

  • ENGINEERING GEOLOGY LAB 

The objective of this laboratory is to study the various geological factors affecting the location, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of different civil engineering structures. This laboratory includes physical properties of minerals and rocks, geological properties like strike and dip of the bedding planes and study of different types of maps. The basic about the geological conditions in a location will enable the students for proper design of foundations, the location of ground water and design of structures for earthquake resistance. This laboratory course will help the students to understand the theoretical concepts learned in the course Engineering Geology.

There is a huge demand for civil engineers in India and expected to get a boost as the country gets ready to upgrade its infrastructure with growing economic and political power in the world. The career opens a lot of opportunities in numerous government departments such as CPWD, state PWD’s, railways, irrigation, environment, NHAI, BSNL, ISRO, various municipal corporations, local bodies etc. and PSU’s such as ONGC, NTPC, NHPC, EIL, NBCC, CIL, BHEL, ISRO, SAIL etc. There are equally good opportunities for civil engineers in the private sector companies like L & T, Reliance Infra, Shapoorji Pallonji, Raheja group, Punj Lloyd, Jaypee group, Tata group, Jindal group etc. A major opening for civil engineers is also in armed forces where they can make a vital contribution to the protection of the country. Last but not the least; they can set up their own construction company or consultancy firm. In the years to come, there will be an adequate employment opportunity for civil engineers due to consistent and continuous extension and development program and other initiatives taken by the government of India.
